Facts
Dutch Elm Disease in Saskatchewan
- Dutch elm disease (DED) first appeared in Saskatchewan in 1981 when one infected elm was found in Regina.
- Now well-established in northeast and southeast Saskatchewan, we can expect DED to spread province-wide. It's only a matter of time!
- The SDEDA acts as an advisory body to Saskatchewan Environment's Forest Ecosystems Branch that carries out a DED program involving:
- an annual surveillance for DED
- the removal of diseased elms
- a DED cost-share program
- Public awareness campaign
- DED research
